Day 1
On 5th August, we left Japan for Los Angeles. At that time, I couldn’t image what UCLA is like. After we arrived at UCLA, I had lunch at a burger shop. But, I made a mistake there. I couldn’t understand what the clerk said, so I said “OK.” Finally, I bought a hamburger and large size Coca-Cola although I don’t like Coca-Cola very much. The mistake became my good motivation of learning how to communicate with people. I don’t want to do it again, so I decided to challenge communication with UCLA students. After the orientation, we could have dinner between 5 and 8 P.M. But I couldn’t have dinner because I slept during our dinner time. So I ate potato chips that I bought at the airport, but it wasn’t food! It was salt!! When I am writing this essay, I am feeling so hungry. Tomorrow, I want to get Tauros in Pokemon Go!!! (T.I. H2)

The day 8/5 was full of the memories of mine. This was nearly the first time to go abroad for me. And I didn’t remember how to get on an airplane because I was a child at that time. When the airplane which we got on began to move, I was so excited. I will never forget that my heart was beating. After arrived at Los Angeles airport, we went to UCLA. As soon as we reached the dormitories in UCLA, I had lunch with my friends, Yoshiki, Lei, Taichiro. We decided to eat hamburgers, but I couldn’t speak English clearly and listened to the clerk’s explanation correctly. So I regretted showing my shameful behavior. I wanted to speak more; therefore I decided to study English harder. By the way, the hamburger was very big. As a result, I didn’t want to eat dinner. I was surprised at the big hamburger. But, when I began to fall in sleep, Yoshiki said to me that he wanted to go to eat with me at the cafeteria. The cafeteria was so beautiful for high school students to enter and relax. Its system was buffet. There were a lot of dishes including soft drinks, ice creams, and chocolate cakes. I like sweet desserts. I felt this cafeteria was heaven. I remembered today’s orientation that Ms.Younji gave to us. She was a really kind person. During the orientation, we introduced ourselves at first. Mr. Kobayashi recommended a movie, “Identity”. It seemed to be interesting. Maybe I’m going to watch the movie. After that, we played a game like a broken telephone. We had a nice time. The day was only the first day of this program. But I was really moved by the day. I won’t forget this day. (T.T. H2)

Monday 6th August
Today, I went Matthew Flinders Anglican College for the first day of lessons.
First, we gathered in the library and learned about the Australian culture and rules. Though I didn’t get any new information, it was fun.
Second, we had “morning tea” time. There is no time like that in Japan. It is a short break time in the morning when you can have a snack. We had a good time.
Third, we went to the school farm. There, there were chickens, ducks, sheep and one emu. The most interesting thing was feeding the sheep. There were many mandarin trees so we could pick some fruit and feed them that.
Finally, Clare (the homestay program director) drove home me to my homestay house via the supermarket. She bought a lot of food for tomorrow’s cooking class.
It was a great day.

Monday 6th August
Today, I went to the farm at Matthew Flinders. There, I saw chickens, sheep and an emu for the first time. I was very surprised because the emu was very tall and can run very fast. I picked up and held a chicken. I don’t like animals so much but the chicken was quiet, so I could pick it up and take a photo. It was a lot of fun.
After school, we went to the supermarket. It was so big and we could buy lots of things. Tonight, we cooked inari for dinner with Paige and Rennay. They knew inari so we could cook together. We are going to eat inari for lunch tomorrow, so I hope it tastes good.

Saturday 4th August, 2018
I arrival at the airport at about 6AM, 30 minutes early according to the captain’s explanation. It was a little cold here and I shivered in the morning in the cold air but I felt relieved to stretch out my legs after sitting in the same seat for about 10 hours.
The woman who greeted us after I we came through immigration is a kind person and I think some anxiety was removed when I met her.
We enjoyed a walk in Brisbane and we were given free time at Queen Street Mall. I walked around with Kousuke, Akira and Ryo. There, we saw some shops in Queen Street, but we didn’t buy much. Finally, I bought a T-Shirt and two packs of gum, Kousuke bought a Juice what I don’t remember and I forget what Akira bought.
After free time, we went to MFAC by bus but I slept because I was tired due to the short sleep on the airplane. So, I don’t know what happened on the bus.
After arriving at MFAC, each host family came to pick us up. I was picked up last by Ms.Sylviane. I talked with her on the way to my house, but I regret I couldn’t check an email my host family had sent to me 10 days ago.
After we arrived at my house and got to know the unique and cheerful family, I any nervousness I had disappeared and we had a good time.

Sunday 5th August, 2018
Today, I went to a music contest at MFAC. Ela, my host sister participated in the in the contest. She plays the trombone and her performance was wonderful.
We had lunch together after we came back home. I ate a salmon, avocado and lettuce bread roll. It was delicious!
In the afternoon, I went took the host family’s dog for a walk with my host parents. The dog’s name is Dixie. She is so cute (ブサカワ in Japanese) I love her!!
Later, I went to the evening portion of the music contest and after that we ate “Hungry Jacks” for dinner.
One day feels so long here. I’m looking forward to the coming days in Australia

Sunday 5th August, 2018
I went for a walk and could hear the sound of birds. The birds sung loudly, and my sleepiness was gone.
In the morning we went to Coolum beach and saw the beautiful sea. In spite of being winter, there were lots of people enjoying swimming and surfing at the beach.
After that, we drove to Mount Coolum National Park. The view from the mountain was so beautiful, so I took lots of pictures.
In the afternoon, we went to Coolum beach again and took a walk. We walked to the viewing platform. We could see the sea, and it was so beautiful.
After we got back home, we watched cricket. The family taught me about the rules of cricket, so I could enjoy the game.
The dinner was steak. I wanted to eat Australian beef, so I was so happy to eat it. The dessert was pavlova which is a famous kind of cake in Australia. The pavlova was so tasty, and I could enjoy it.
I enjoyed the day in Australia, and I’m very happy to be staying with the Slattery family.
