In this class, students will develop their ability to convey complex scientific concepts clearly and accurately to a broad audience through the precise use of language and strategic presentation of data. They will also hone their critical analysis skills as applied to science journalism and popular science writing, increasing their overall science literacy.

Throughout the course, students will examine how language is used to not only convey data but also to shape the narrative around it, thereby enabling them to more effectively assess the credibility of a given text. Students will work towards the goal of producing their own independent study project which achieves the aims being both complete (satisfactorily answering the question they set out to research), methodologically sound, and compelling.

Due to the independent nature of this course, organization and effective time management will be essential to your success.

Drafts must be completed by the set deadlines in order to ensure that peer editors have enough time to provide feedback.
